Dog or Cat....?

kay, this summer, my family are going to adopt two animals. My brothers getting a dog, my sisters not getting anything (she doesnt want anything) but im not sure. I LOVE kittens, and i am fascinated by older cats, and its SO easy to litterbox train them, compared to a puppy. I would probal get one, but i am afraid of it growing apart from me as it gets older. I want a "Bestie" for life. (An animal one, i HAVE friends ;-) ) I know some cats ARE like that, but how do i find one?
The i want a dog, becasue, i love their devtotedness, and i think they're aweosme. Hard to train, but i ve reaserched that.

I leave the house last at 8:30 mon thru thursday, and the animals would be home alone till 2:30, when my sister gets home.

help?

Hi! It really comes down to personal choice and your lifestyle. We have 3 cats and 2 dogs. I personally prefer cats. here are some pros and cons.

Cats: live longer (up to 20 years if they are strictly indoor cats - less disease, no attacks from other animals or worse - cats and mean people). they are very affectionate and love attention - if you give them the attention they need then there is no reason it'll grow apart from you. Yes - much easier to train since they only need to be disciplined - you dont really have to teach them tricks- if they love you they will come when called.

Dogs: mans best friend... depending on the breed - they could potentially be trained as a guard dog to scare away bullies. Also, since ur bro is getting a dog, choosing the right breed (which is very important) would be that little bit harder cos the 2 dogs will need to get along with each other. You need to train them basic commands like sit, stay, heel, come, down etc. for when you're in public - nothing more embarrassing then a naughty dog! Barking and howling, trying to escape are all possible factors which hopefully you wont need to face.

Which ever way you decide to go - choosing the right breed is very very important - bigger dogs need to be walked every day whereas smaller dogs dont really need as much exercise - so how much time do you have to spare?
neither get a ferret theyare just s cool devoted playful ans cute easy to potty train too!
In my personal experience, neutered male cats are the friendliest animals out there, and they need the least supervision/interaction.

Results may vary.
Cats are not high maintenance at all and as long as you are kind to it and spoil it rotten it will be your "Bestie" for life. And your right, it's easy to litter train them! I have two dogs who are housetrained but I was home all day with them to train them and my son just got a rabbit that we litter trained. So when thinking of adopting an animal keep in mind there are others besides cats and dogs. Rabbits are wonderful!! We love ours.
its great that your family is going to adopt animals, get a dog they're like mega friendly, just hire a trainer for him/her. like you Im also facinated by cats, but they didnt like too much =))
well.lots of people says that dog is the bestfriend ever.!i have no idea about that.but i have 2 kittens and a big cat atm.well they r cool.if you really want cats to be ur BESTIE.you just need to show your love.they do understand.*cats.*believe me.i have experiences.i adore cats.dont care what kind of cats are they.i love cats!and animals.;)
Get a cat. They are just as loveable but need less human contact than a dog
I totally fell what you mean. I just lost a cat (didnt come out of sedation), any way, he was my best friend, i only had him for 2 years, and when i look back at when i first got him, he was the little one, not the runt though, he was so tiny, about teh size of my hand, he was a real baby, and i let him sleep in my bed, and well, he left me a present, so i wasn't happy, he use to meow at night when he was scared or lonely and id let him cuddle up next to my head. 2 years on and he still cuddles up to my head and he use to sleep with me. He was my best friend, after he died, i thought id never get over him, and i haven't, but i have gotton help, from my kitten chloe, i got her for christmas, and though isn't anything like Apollo, she is my best friend too. WHat im saying is, taht if you treat them with love and compasion as a kitten, i beleive tath they will always be your friend.

I was going to adopt a kitten, as Apollo would have wanted me to, but i got chloe, and i think taht she was deservant of it, her family didn't treat her nice, her house was full of cigarett smoke and they use to breath it into their faces. After a few moths of having her, she is a real friend, she thinks shes a princess, but thats ok.

If you adopt one, i think they feel thankful and if your a best friend to them, they will be back.

Also, if your brother is getting a dog, why get another, i do love dogs, and they are true best friends, i think taht if you go to where ever your adopting from and you see the 'one' you will know it, dont be restricted to one or teh other, decide after you meet them, and sleep on it, i asked god for help, i am not one of those people who adores god and all that, but i do beleive in something, and i think taht has helped me choose the right animals.

Good luck
