Female Ferrets?

Hello, I know you have to have female ferrets spayed before there first coming into season. Can any one give me full details, of why and when, and is it a case of you can get them spayed and then not have to worry? Thanks for you help!
Answers:
a female ferret will stay in constant heat until she gets pregnant if she isn't spayed that's why you need her spayed before. It is much easier to remove organs when they are not swollen and bleeding like they are when animal is in heat. It also helps keep the animal from the added stress of just going through the heat in general. It will cost you more if she is in heat to have her spayed too. Some states are required to sell them already spayed or neutered so you might not have to worry about it. Once they are spayed you don't have to worry about her going into heat again.
Most are fixed before they are offered to the public. Ferrets are one of the strange creatures that have to be bred or else they will continue in their cycle until they litterally will bleed to death.

Sadly a lot of ferrets are 'mill products' one of the ways to see if your ferrets is one of these is if you look at your pet's ears. One of the biggest ferret mills gives their ferrets two marks/tatoos on their ears. One is for altering one is for descenting.
You really should not have a fully intact female unless you plan to breed. Reason being...a female goes into heat and will not stop bleeding until she becomes pregnant. This means she will literally bleed to death if she is not bred.

As far as WHEN is the best time...I really don't know. I never had to worry about it since I have always purchased ferrets that were already altered. Take her to the vet. I imagine having it done by the time her first heat comes.

Good luck!
