Ever since I brought my male cat home from surgery, my female cat growls & hisses at him! Why? What can I do?

They were always friendly before, but now she's out of control- chasing him around the house and not letting him near the food bowl. Does anyone have any experience with this?

He smells different from when he left and she doesn't like it. Cats are very scent oriented and there must be something she doesn't like. If possible, try separating them for a bit so he can eat and recuperate.

I had a cat who was stuck under floorboards in a house nearby. Thank goodness the owenrs found him and took him to the local vet. When I brough him home, the other cats were very distrubed and hissed, etc. Once he was home for a while, they calmed down.

Give it time, she just needs some time to readjust.
he may smell different ... rub him down with the shirt or underwear you slept in last night ... watch them when they are together. Eventually she will calm down.
Funny you say that my cat went to the vet 2 days ago and my cat has been acting the same way to the one that was sick. I am thinking that the healthy kitty doesn't want to get sick like the sick kitty so they are running them off. Guess its part of that cat nature we need to learn more about! Good luck.
We have 3 cats, and they all react that way to whoever goes to the vet. It's because they no longer smell like themselves, but like that most-evil-of-all-places, the vet's office.

No need to do anything. The scent will wear off by itself and they'll be back to themselves in a couple of days.
I have 2 male cats. My older one always does the same thing to the little one after he returns from the vet. It has nothing to do with the other cat not wanting to get sick, because he wasn't sick. He went one time for shots, another time to get neutered. They smell the scent of the other animals, and taking them together, if possible, doesn't help. Try rubbing the other cats scent on the cat that went ot the vet (i.e. blanket they sleep on, etc.)
P.S. Wiping dirty underwear on a cat is -pretty disgusting!!
Oh dear how distressing, alas its the scent from the vets thats at fault.

Have you anything that you can rub on your cat which belongs to you.

They will settle it just takes time, try using your pets brush and groom him this may help.

Good luck
He probably now smells a bit different and if she is afriad of the vet, then him smelling like the vet isn't good. Not sure what you can do about the smell being removed apart from washing him down or using dry shampoo.
