I think it's good what you did already but they just won't budge, eh? I think you should explain to them that you want to prove that you can be responsible and tell them that you will look after the hamster all by yourself so that they don't worry that they'll end up having to look after it.
Also, make sure that it is what you really want. Are you sure you won't get bored of a hamster or won't have the time to feed it, clean it out..etc.
Good luck, I hope that helped, and if you do get a hamster..have fun with it and choose a cute name lol!
Show them a calander have a specific time set at least 1 week. Make a cage out of a cardboard box. Put specific things into it to represent the real object. Get a rock or stuffed animal and show them every week the progress you have made with it such as washing its cage, taming it, exercise with it, play with it, and if you fail to take care of it you know that they were right and you are not responsible enough. If you do fail try again the next year. Then you might be responsible enough. Your lucky to have dogs. I only have 1 hammie. Her names Apple.
Give up for now and wait a bit of time, after all maybe they think they can't handle any additional pets. Don't push the issue right now and let the hamster idea settle down for several months. I know at 10 how hard it it, I have a daughter that just turned 11 this month. Back when she was 5 she wanted to dye her hair, but I said no at theat time, but if a year from them she could if she wanted to still. Wel a little more then a year later she reminded me of our conversation and I dyed her hair for her. She was a blonde and now has strawberry-blonde hair. Maybe this is the type of agreement to get your parents to do, but have them sign a paper agreeing theat in one year from that day, if you still want a hamster you could have one. My daughter during that year never mentioned about her hair ever, which is what I suggest you do over the next year if they sign a years agreement. Put the paper in your dresser or other very safe location. Put a calender in your room and circle the day a year from now on it, then wait a few days beyond that and ask again, if they say no, pull out the signed paper and remind them of the deal they made with you the year before.
When the time comes, get a male long hair, golden or black Syrian, they have great attitudes and are less likely to nip or bite. Females often are pregnant when bought and have heat cycles that stink every 4-5 days also are more apt to nip or bite.
i wouldnt get too upset over it. after all, when i first asked my parents for mice they said "NO WAY" but then a couple months later, i ended up getting 1 hamster. like other ppl suggested, just make sure u can take care of it and have money and the know-how. and they r fairly easy to take care off. all thats needed is food, water, a clean cage, regular cleaning (and if u want them to get used to being handled) hold them when they r little. if u wait until they r adult hamsters, they will b EXTREMELY hard to hold, bcuz they will bite and b scared. and, despite some ppls' suggestions of "dont leave the food in the cage bcuz they will get fat", leave the food INSIDE the cage at ALL times. once i took the food out, but i forgot to give the hamster food (she didnt die) but when i went to hold her, she bite me. twice. mainly they bite if they:
havent been properly cared for
r hungry
r scared/nervous bcuz of having a new house
but dont, whatever u do, DO NOT beg ur parents, as they will c this as an annoying thing and that will DEFINETLY result in never getting a hamster (or ne other pet). so make sure u have money, time, a good responsible attitude, and then just give ur parents some time. eventually (hopefully) they will allow u to have a hamster. :)
