My brother's guinea pig has skin kinda flaking off in one area on his back - but not dry flakes like dandruff, it's like fresh skin - it gets stuck in the fur. both of our gp's recently had a kind of droplet mite treatment from the vet that we had to put on the skin on their backs, but we don't think this is the problem as only my brother's gp has the peeling skin. what's causing this? no clumps of fur are falling out, so i'm not sure if it's a fungal problem.

Both mites and fungal stuff (usually ringworm in piggies) will, if obvious, be bare patches of skin. This sounds more like an irritation than an infection - maybe an allergic reaction to the mite treatment that only one piggie has. Call up the vet and ask if that's a possibility...otherwise, I'd unfortunately also recommend to take them in again. To test for fungal stuff they pluck a few hairs and grow them in a culture to see what grows, basically, it takes about a week, but in the meantime they can give you a cream to be using on the afflicted area. But, like I said, sounds like something a little weirder to me. Give the vet a call and good luck!
The pet has an obvious skin infection.. if not treated (sorry if this sounds harsh but) it will probably die...
If the guinea is quite old it could be old age and it could be that it is going to die but i would seriously consider getting some special shampoo from your local pet shop or vet.
If you can afford to take it to a vet this is probably the best option...
Could be mites in the straw, change the supplier and clean the cage. Mine had to have a several injections but it only took a few weeks and now they are as right as rain.(cost about 拢100 for the 2 of them but well worth it)
It does sounds like mites. You can't always see them. Ours had mites and had to get injections .
GP's are prone to skin complaints, best go back to the vets
