Hamster question ?

We bought a male hamster 10 weeks ago. He was 6 weeks old when we got him. We have read all the books ,followed all the advice.
He is a really nice character, does not bite and is now quite tame although lively.
He eats fine, his stools are normal, firm. He seems very happy and contended. He comes out of his sleeping box and comes to us at the bars of his cage.
I am concerned because each night when he comes out he is discoloured around his tail.
I have read about WET TAIL,I do not think this is wet tail because it started several weeks ago yet he seems happy and very healthy.
I wash him with a damp cloth and he plays in his ball and the discolouration dries and disappears, but it is there each day when he gets out of his bed at night. his bedding is fresh each day.
He is silver in colour but is getting to look tan around his tail.
If this is not wet tail what is it?. If it is wet tail why is he so well ,eating drinking, full of life. He looks extremely fit.
Any ideas? thanks
Answers:
well, if it was wet tail I'd say feed him some cabbage
since it doesn't sound like wet tail then it's probably just urine that is discoloring his fur; you sound like a great hammie owner, you researched your pet and follow all proven methods to insure is best care, and for that you should be proud of yourself.for that same token you need to realize the more invested in your pet you are the more likely you are to freak out about every little sneeze and every time he sleeps in an extra five minutes! Don't get me wrong, it's good - cross that - great that you care so much for your hammie but I'm just letting you know, concern is a good thing it prevents alot of bad things however too much concern can lead to too much stress for you-take a chill, hon, you're doing GREAT and your hammie is healthy and happy so relax and enjoy each others company
ps, you should probably feed him the cabbage anyway-they love cabbage and it's healthy for them (if he doesn't have wet tail-it will prevent wet tail, and if he does have wet tail-cabbage can make him better; just feed him a couple of pieces about the size of a quarter every day and don't worry if he doesn't eat all of it-fresh cabbage is best, buy a head of it at the grocery store)
It certainly sounds like wet tail, but you're right in thinking he should be getting more poorly. I' d take him to the vet anyway, as wet tail is fatal and if it's not that, I don't know what it is but a vet might!
It's probably just his scent glands ...nothing to worry about !
even though your hamster is eating and drinking and grooming, is he losing weight? my hamster was like that, he lost so much weight that you could feel his spine by just lightly touching him. a few weeks later, he got the wet tail. he wouldn't eat, groom, or drink. he just kept sleeping. so if your hamster does that, bring it to the vet as soon as you can, or if you can't, you can go to petsmart, and get this thing called "wet tail oasis plus" something like that. i heard it works. as long as your hamster are eating, drinking, and grooming, there shouldn't be anything to be worried about.
if the betting is colored that could be it
take him to vet anyway and have it checked out.
Male hamsters tend to be very lazy compared to the females, i have this with my male hamster and all i can suggest is that he pee's himself mine does this and smells ofeten too, if it was wet tail he would be very very poorley by now, if you are concerned then do take him to the vets but do think it is just what my hamster does.
