Hampster eye problems!!! please help!!?

I think my hampster is going blind. I beleive ( i don't know cuz i don't clean him) But my mom wakes him up everyday and cleans his eyes because he has goo on them and it's hard for him to open up his eyes. He is not sneezing (if they do sneeze), i donno if he can get pink eye but he is 2 and he still eats and drinks but he no longer runs around and my mom thinks he is going blind... anyone with knowledge on hampsters please respond. He is a long haired teddy bear cute hampster.

Your hamster is two years old...so going blind is very common in elderly hamsters. You have to remember, hamsters live anywhere from 1.5 years to 3 if you're lucky, so he might be going blind. I haven't heard of goo on hamster's eyes before, but if it is hard for him to open up his eyes, he may have glaucoma or cataracts. If he is still eating and drinking, that is good, but the running around part just means he is getting old. I am sorry to say it...but it seems like he's just getting signs of old age. Just enjoy the rest of your time with him and make sure you give him all the love and care that you can!
It sounds like from the goo, that your hamster has an eye infection (pink eye) and needs to be treated by a vet with eye drops. I've been through this before and it can be caused by dust from the litter if your using a wood shavings litter especially. Pink eye is a bit painful so this may also be why he doesn't run around. Also at 2 years old he is on the upper end of his life expectancy, but I've had one live for over 7 years. My daughter has a male that was 3 back in Jan. and still going like he's 1. By the way the Teddy bear hamster is a Syrian with long hair which is a mutation of the original Golden hamsters. I rescue small animals and have dealt with many health related problems with them. Some I could save others I couldn't. The main health problem with Syrians is getting Wet Tail. However the pink eye left untreated could cause other health problems like a respiratory infection. These can be fatal even with treatments.
The answer is to take him to the vet!!! Why do people waste time asking questions on the health of pets when only a vet is qualified to answer them? He may be scared, or in pain, so please dont waste time on the computer. If your parents were loosing their sight would you be posting the same question? or getting them medical help? Pets are our responsibilty so be responsible and seek proper help.
i am very sorry about that i think you have to take him to the vet and every day please chean him
